MICA will admit students from colleges and universities hit by Hurricane Katrina on a visiting basis for one semester, Fall 2005, so that they remain students of their home institution.
|
We will not charge tuition if the student has already paid tuition to the home institution; and if the student has not paid the home institution, will charge the home institution's rate of tuition and remit that amount to the home institution.
On-campus housing is extremely limited. MICA will offer students from outside the Baltimore area assistance in finding housing off campus, and students will be responsible for the cost of their housing. Baltimore-area students offered admission to MICA are encouraged to live at home and attend MICA as a commuter student for Fall 2005. We will charge room and board and other fees at the same rate assessed for other visiting/exchange students through the College Mobility Program.
MICA recommends that students affected by Hurricane Katrina make every effort to enroll as soon as possible. Students have the option of enrolling through Monday, September 13, 2005.

Our Academic Response: 1. Find a means to enroll students from the hurricane area on either the main campus or through our accelerated programs at the Frederick, Maryland, campus. 2. Work with the Department of Education to facilitate transfer of financial aid. 3. Develop strategies for flexible transfer of credits so those students who may come to the Mount can easily transfer credit to their colleges/universities. 4. Use this opportunity to focus our curricula on the needs of others— and to especially address issues of poverty, race and culture. 5. Provide tuition assistance to displaced students. 6. Develop a plan to invite displaced faculty to the Mount for a sabbatical, or to help teach through our adjunct faculty program.
